4.0 Tournament Structure
Guitar Hero II Open-
Contestants will perform a song of their choosing at a difficulty level they are
comfortable with. Each performer will perform their song in front of 3 judges. At the
end of each performance each judge will award a score of 1.0-10.0, reflecting stage
presence, difficulty of performance and accuracy. All 3 scores will be added together to
produce a final score adding up to a possible 30.0.

Round 1-
All 32 contestants individually perform a song of their choice in front of a panel of 3
judges. Each judge has a specific area of expertise:

1. The Celebrity Judge (Relative Term) will rate performers based on their Stage Presence. The ability
to work a crowd, put together a unique and thought-out set, and look the part of a
rock star all play into the Stage Presence score.

2. The Industry Judge (writer/DJ) will rate the Difficulty of Performance. This
includes the difficulty level chosen, how hard the song is, and the different
strumming or whammy bar techniques utilized.

3. The Gamer Judge will analyze the Accuracy of Performance. The players who
score highest will excel in this category, and the areas where players make
mistakes will be taken into account. For example, missing a note during a difficult
solo will be penalized differently than missing the first note of the song.

At the end of a performance, the judges will each award contestants a score of 1-10.0 and
explain their methodology. All 3 scores will be added together to produce a final score
out of a total possible 30.0 points.

The top 16 scores will advance to the next competition round.

Round 2-
All 16 performers will choose a song of their liking to perform. Performers may not
choose a song that they have already selected at this event. Judging will follow the same
format outlined in Round 1, resulting in a score out of 30.0 possible points for each
contestant. The performers with the top 8 scores will move on. If there is a tie, judges
will then pick a song for those players to perform. The winner will then advance to round
3. The judge’s song selection will not disqualify a song for later use in the tournament by
the player who wins the tiebreaker.

Round 3-
The 8 Players remaining will once again pick a song to perform in front of the judges.
Performers may not choose a song that they have already selected at this event. Judging
will take place in the exact same manner as in Round 2. The top 2 scores will advance to
the Finals.

Finals-
Each performer will select 2 songs that will perform in front of the judges. Performers
may not choose a song that they have already selected at this event. Each song will be
judged as in previous rounds, and the 2 score totals will be combined into 1 final score. In
case of a tie, there will be a Head to Head duel using the multiplayer mode on a song
picked by the judges. The competitor with the highest total score at the end of this duel
will be crowned the tournament champion.

5.0 Match Preparation

5.1 Players encouraged to bring personal guitar controllers from home (BYOG).
Guitar controllers will be available for those who are unable to provide their own.

such as stickers or custom paint jobs. Modifications that alter the
FUNCTIONALITY of the guitar (such as button springs or kill switches) are not

perform at a single event.
